LemFi is paying 5.00% AER on instant access savings — no lock-in, no penalties, and you can open an account in minutes.

LemFi — primarily known as an international money transfer app — has launched an instant access savings account paying a boosted 5.00% AER for the first six months. After that, it drops to a tracker rate currently sitting at 3.04% AER.

Both figures are competitive for easy access right now, and with no withdrawal penalties, no minimum term, and FSCS protection via ClearBank, this account is worth a serious look — particularly if you already use LemFi to send money abroad.

What Is LemFi?

LemFi (trading name for RightCard Payment Services Limited) is an FCA-registered Electronic Money Institution (Firm Reference 900424) focused on international money transfers. The app lets users send money abroad, hold currency balances, and — now — earn interest on GBP savings.

The savings account itself is powered by ClearBank, which is the regulated banking infrastructure behind it. ClearBank is the UK's first new clearing bank in over 250 years, authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and regulated by both the FCA and PRA. While you access the account through LemFi's app, your money is held at ClearBank.

That distinction matters both for regulation and for FSCS purposes — more on that below.

The Rate: How Does 5.00% AER Stack Up?

The boosted 5.00% AER is available to both new and existing LemFi customers who haven't previously held a LemFi Instant Access Savings account. It applies for six months from the day you open the account.

Once the introductory period ends, the account reverts to LemFi's standard tracker rate, which currently sits at 3.04% AER (3.00% gross). That tracker is set at 0.75% below the Bank of England base rate, meaning it will move up or down in line with BoE decisions.

At the time of writing, 3.04% AER is still respectable for easy access — but it's worth keeping an eye on rates and switching if better options emerge. That's easy enough to do given there are no lock-in penalties.

FSCS Protection: What You Need to Know

Your deposits are FSCS protected up to £120,000, but there's an important caveat.

Because the account is powered by ClearBank, the £120,000 limit applies across all ClearBank-powered accounts you hold — not just your LemFi account. If you also have savings in another account that runs on ClearBank's banking licence, those balances will be aggregated when calculating your FSCS coverage.

Example from LemFi's own terms: If you have £100,000 in a LemFi savings account and £30,000 in another ClearBank-powered account elsewhere, you'd have £130,000 deposited but only £120,000 covered.

If you're not sure whether another account you hold uses ClearBank, it's worth checking before depositing large sums and if you're using other ClearBank operated accounts and don't think you're covered than check out these other easy-access accounts that are available right now:

What Works Well

  • 5.00% AER is a strong opening rate — competitive with the best easy access accounts on the market right now

  • Genuinely instant access — withdraw whenever you want, with no notice period and no penalties

  • Low entry point — £1 minimum means anyone can start

  • Daily interest accrual — you're earning from the off, not waiting for a monthly calculation

  • No fees — nothing to open, nothing to manage

What to Watch Out For

  • App only — there's no web interface, which may put some savers off

  • ClearBank FSCS aggregation — the protection limit is shared across all ClearBank-powered accounts, which matters if you hold savings elsewhere on that licence

  • Tracker rate fluctuates — the 3.04% standard rate will fall if the BoE cuts rates

  • No joint accounts — not suitable for couples saving together

  • Currency account limits — deposits pass through LemFi's currency wallet, which may have its own transaction limits

Who Is It Best For?

LemFi's savings account is a strong option if you:

  • Already use LemFi for money transfers and want to earn interest on GBP while funds sit in the app

  • Want a genuinely flexible easy access account with a competitive introductory rate

  • Are comfortable with an app-only experience

  • Don't have large balances sitting in other ClearBank-powered accounts

If you prefer desktop access or want to keep everything with a traditional bank, this probably isn't the right fit — but purely on rate and flexibility, it's difficult to ignore.

Verdict

LemFi's Instant Access Savings account delivers a genuinely competitive offer. The 5.00% AER introductory rate is one of the best available on an easy access account right now, and the 3.04% standard tracker holds up reasonably well even after the boost ends.

The account is clean, flexible, and straightforward to open. The main things to understand before committing are the FSCS aggregation point (especially relevant for larger balances) and the fact that everything runs through the app. For most savers, neither will be a dealbreaker.
